At Pilates with Ursula, my mission is to empower you through the transformative practise of Pilates. Regular consistency increases muscle strength and tone, flexibility and bone density. Posture, lung capacity, circulation, motor-skills, along with improvement to balance. Back pain reduces with added overall injury prevention Pilates with Ursula believes in fostering a supportive environment where everyone can achieve their movement goals and enhance their well-being.
Pilates came into my life in 1994. Partly through injury, but also curiosity and longing for a form of exercise movement that could give me strength and the energy for the soul that all my years of Ballet training gave me. After many years in the international corporate world and part-time teaching, I re-trained at an advanced level in Classical Pilates. I moved to full time teaching in 2015 and have been fortunate enough to teach in South Africa, UK, and France; be trained by 2nd generation Joseph Pilates instructors, as well as running my own wellness studio.
My focus is on teaching mat based classical Pilates at all levels. It’s transportable, more affordable and at times, can be harder attending an advanced level mat class as opposed to reformer. I have a teaching style which is ‘slow and focused’ and truly believe: “It’s not about the What – It’s about the How”, not only in practicing Pilates, but in life too. I am a gentle soul; my mannerisms are empathetic and fun.
Mid 2020, I survived a massive hemorrhagic stroke. After a period of coma, meningitis on the brain, two brain surgeries and a shunt fitted to manage water on the brain, I’ve come to fully appreciate the simplest things we all mostly tend to take for granted daily. All of this was through coronavirus lockdowns and not speaking the local language either.
My neurosurgeons, aside from being astonished I survived, are completely certain my own amazing ongoing recovery process was enabled by my long-term practice of Pilates.
To be brave, I now know means pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone. Gratefulness is something I like to share, and I feel very blessed to be alive.
